Lake Wylie is the Catawba's oldest impoundment, dammed in 1904, with about 13,400 acres and roughly 325 miles of shoreline straddling the North Carolina and South Carolina line. Mature, tree-shaded coves carry some of the most established lake communities within reach of Charlotte, and the commute pulls south Charlotte, the airport and the border counties.
